Canada is closer than ever to making sure everyone has access to the prescription medications they need. What we need now is political will.

The federal government passed the Pharmacare Act on October 10, 2024, with a focus on universal access to birth control and diabetes treatment for all Canadians.

I have been advocating for universal access to essential medications for most of my career, so I was honored to be included in the federal government’s National Pharmacare Committee of Experts tasked with considering the path forward. Over the last year, the committee has been hard at work outlining recommendations for the federal government to fully implement a national program. Join us next week for a live discussion about how we recommend Canada move forward with pharmacare for all.

What’s happening?

An interactive discussion featuring members of the National Pharmacare Committee of Experts:

  • Dr. Nav Persaud, Canada Research Chair in Health Justice and Staff Physician in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital in Unity Health Toronto
  • Amy Lamb, Executive Director of Indigenous Pharmacy Professionals of Canada
  • Linda Silas, CFNU President

People in Canada can’t afford to keep waiting for essential medications. I’m calling on the federal government to commit to what they’ve started and fully implement pharmacare for all. Add your voice to our campaign at https://pharmacare.nursesunions.ca.
