Registered nurses have a holistic view of individual and population health and recognize that the best way to make improvements is to address challenges and issues on the front-end by tackling the root causes of poor health.
A key component of SUN’s vision statement is to promote healthy communities across Saskatchewan. Giving back to organizations that are making a difference in their communities through our annual community donations is one way through which SUN lives up to this vision.
Whether it be food or housing insecurity, unemployment, access to education or creating an environment for children to thrive both physically and emotionally, the social determinants of health are central to the overall wellbeing of our communities and society. As frontline care providers, registered nurses see the impacts of these social determinants of health in the system every single day. Any project that positively impacts the social determinants is, therefore, a major focus for Saskatchewan’s registered nurses.
