Overview

In partnership with NTF, the CARE Centre for Internationally IEN presents Case Management and Workplace Integration Programming in Canada

Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) bring invaluable skills, diversity, and experience to Canadian health systems but their successful transition into practice often depends on more than licensure alone. The CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses approach to supporting IENs includes Workplace Integration Program (WIP), a structured framework for employers and IENs to collaborate, support, and sustain long-term integration in healthcare settings. Additionally, CARE will explore their case management strategies that support both IENs and organizations through the integration journey.

You’ll learn:

  1. What is CARE’s Workplace Integration Program (WIP)
    • An overview of CARE’s mission to support IENs in Ontario and beyond via bridging, mentoring, and integration services.
Key components: cross‐cultural recruitment, diversity & cultural competence training, customized orientation, communication and feedback skills, and ongoing professional development.
    • Dual stream approach: supports for employers to integrate IENs, and supports for IENs themselves to adapt in the workplace.
  2. Case Management as a Core Strategy
    • Role of a case manager in guiding IENs: individualized planning, navigating licensure pathways, linking to resources, and checking in during early practice.
    • Examples of case management supports: orientation, mentoring, language/communication skill development, cultural competence coaching, performance feedback, and conflict resolution.
    • How case management bridges organizational needs and IEN needs for retention and satisfaction.
  3. Q&A and Action Planning
    • Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of CARE Centre representatives (or expert panel)
    • Action steps for organizations and IENs to begin or strengthen their integration pathways.
