Position Statement: Denise Dick

First Vice-President Candidate ~ Denise Dick

My Name is Denise Dick, and I am seeking re-election as your First Vice President

It has been a true honor to serve on your behalf. The constant learnings and the opportunity to work with SUN members in this role is what I truly enjoy.

My 41 years of Registered Nursing included working on the Paediatrics Unit, General Surgery and then on the Women's Health Unit in Moose Jaw. My involvement at a local level started early in my career, from attending local meetings, supporting strike action, and holding the roles of Secretary and Vice President and as the employee co-chair of the OH&S committee. This involvement led me to pursue the next level. I was elected to the Finance Committee in 2003,then the Board of Directors in 2004, and in 2013 to the position of First Vice President. All which have contributed to making my nursing career even more rewarding.

The constant changes happening in our environment, the threats to Registered Nurse practice, the transition to the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Pandemic, the nursing shortage and extremely difficult working conditions have kept us all on high alert. Working with the dedicated management and staff and seeing firsthand how SUN members are represented is an amazing experience, and I am grateful to be apart of that work.

The opportunity to work with SUN members in my role, whether it be in assisting members, Locals and SNC's in their financial needs, monitoring SU N's Finances as a whole, upholding SUN's Constitution, Policies and Bylaws or having the distinct opportunity to assist in facilitating educationals. These are just a few of the things that confirm for me how very privileged I feel and why I love being a part of this great organization. I continue to educate myself to fulfill my role for members to the best of my ability.

Having the opportunity to represent SUN with some of our external stakeholders such as the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, Saskatchewan Association for Safe Workplaces in Health, Saskatchewan Nurses Foundation, Saskatchewan Health Coalition, and 3s Health Benefits are just some of the opportunities I have been privileged to be a part of and I look forward to continuing this valuable work.

I enjoy being able to connect with students who are the future of SUN through their regional and national student nursing conferences.

As the First Vice President an important part of the role is overseeing the finances of the union.

This is a role I take very seriously. I am a principled and trustworthy person, upholding the Policies, Bylaws and Budget for SUN is an important part of this position and I take pride in being a good steward of the finances of SUN.

I look forward to being able to continue to serve in the capacity as SU N's First Vice President and I would appreciate your continued support in the election.

In Solidarity

Denise Dick RN
