Position Statement: Katherine Dally

First Vice-Presdient Candidate ~ Katherine Dally

I willingly accept the nomination for First Vice President for the next 2 year term.  I currently hold the position of SUN Network Lead South which has allowed me to meet with Local Executives and Members in the South East, South West and Regina Networks.  I was acclaimed to this new full-time position and commenced this position in March 2023 for a 3 year term.

I have been a registered nurse for 37 years and prior to this was a CNA for 4 years working in Acute Care, Long Term Care and Home Care.  During this time, I also worked for SUN as an Employment Relations Officer, Nurse Practice Officer. In addition, I worked in management with the Cypress Health Region and RQHR as a Labour Relations Consultant and Facility Manager in RQHR.

Locally I have held positions as Local President, OH&S representative, and NAC Chair.  I previously served on the Board of Directors as Vice President Long Term Care from 1999 to 2000 and Region 7 Board of Director from 2018 to March 2023 when I commenced the full time elected Network Lead South position in SUN.

I believe my varied experience allows me to bring a unique skill set to the position of First Vice President during these unprecedented times.

As First Vice President I continue to commit to advocate for increased members engagement, involvement, and activism within SUN.  This will require a thorough review of SUN’s provincial funding for all events and committee’s while examining SUN’s budget and expenditures.

SUN provincial dues are collected to allow the Union to represent the members with labour relations, professional practice issues and to provide funds for members involvement in the Union.  We have built a strong Union and with change we can be even stronger.

SUN is currently struggling with maintaining active Locals, mostly with the smaller rural and LTC Locals.  This struggle has seen our membership become further divided.  Change to our Local structure is needed. However, this cannot be accomplished without having meaningful member input and engagement so that we build a structure that will work for all members within SUN.

With your support I look forward to serving the membership on the Board once again in the role of  First Vice President.
