Position Statement: Maureen Arseneau

Network Representative for Southwest Candidate ~ Maureen Arseneau

My name is Maureen Arseneau and I am running for the position of Southwest Network representative on the SUN Board of Directors.

I graduated nursing in 1987 and have spent most of my career at MJUH, now Wigmore Regional Hospital. I have worked in various areas, including Surgery, Women's Health, Emergency, ICU, Dialysis, and Ambulatory Care.

Health Care reform of the early 1990's, with layoffs and bed closures was really the beginning of my activism. I sat as Local Treasurer until 1995-2004, and have been the Local President since 2005.

After the Program Committee and Provincial Bargaining Committee, I chose to run for a position as Regional Representative on the Board of Directors in 2013. I currently sit on the Executive and Policy Committees and as the Board liaison to the CB&R Committee. This position on the BOD has become the most significant, rewarding part of my career. It has grown me as a Leader and I love connecting with members, supporting, and advocating for positive change.

Restructuring to one Health Region has been a significant burden on members and supporting those needs is imperative. The Covid pandemic was so incredibly difficult as we fought to maintain safe patient care across this province. Now, the current health care shortages continue to challenge members in ways I have never experienced before. Our voice must be heard.

Family and SUN are my strongest passions.

I am seeking your support in the upcoming election.

In Solidarity,

Maureen Arseneau
