Position Statement: Melissa McGillivray

Saskatoon Base Hospitals Representative Candidate ~ Melissa McGillivray

I am excited to let my name stand for the position of Saskatoon Base Hospital Representative as I believe we all have the capacity to make a difference. I would love the opportunity to collaborate with leaders at SUN to ensure members feel supported, valued, and heard. As a front line nurse I have worked in a variety of practice settings including emergency, long term care, surgery, medicine, rehabilitation and mental health. I was also fortunate in that I was employed as a Nurse Practice Officer at SUN for five years, allowing me to advocate for safe nursing practice – something I am very passionate about! In terms of relevant experience, I have held a variety of elected roles at the local level. I have worked at all three base hospitals and have a firm understanding of the issues relevant to my peers. Within the broader labour movement, I am the registrar for the Saskatoon and District Labour Council – collaborating with affiliated unions within Saskatoon and Area. As an organization, we must listen to our members, escalate relevant concerns and advocate for our unique role within the health care system. I pride myself on being approachable, transparent, and accountable. I am confident in my ability to collaborate with SUN leadership to ensure the needs of the members at all three Saskatoon base hospitals are met in a timely manner. As Saskatoon Base Hospital Representative, I would be an asset to the Board of Directors at the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses.
