(Regina, SK) -- Members of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) working in Extendicare facilities across the province have voted 97.67% in favour of ratifying a two-year Collective Agreement with Extendicare Canada Inc. This comes after a tentative agreement was reached earlier this month after less than two days of bargaining.
“This is collective bargaining at work and demonstrates how unions and employers can negotiate in the spirit of collaboration,” says SUN First Vice-President, Tracy Zambory. “It is a prime example of how a mutually beneficial agreement can be achieved in a very short amount of time.”
The new agreement provides for a 2% lump sum payment in lieu of a wage increase in the first year, followed by a 2% economic wage increase in year two. Negotiations began in Regina on Tuesday September 11, 2012, with the tentative agreement being reached in just one and half days.
The 143 SUN members who work under the SUN/Extendicare Canada Inc. Collective Agreement work in long-term care in five facilities across the province – one located in Saskatoon, one in Moose Jaw and the remaining three in Regina.
SUN represents almost 9,000 Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), Registered Nurse(Nurse Practitioner)s (RN(NP)s) and graduates in the province.
