As the number of COVID cases here in Saskatchewan continue to climb at a worrisome rate, the already strained healthcare system is feeling the pressure. The latest modelling numbers are projecting a worst-case scenario of over 8,000 cases reported per day. In response to the growing number of COVID cases in the province, on December 3, the Saskatchewan Health Authority activated the next phase in their surge plans to deal with the potential influx in hospitalization by expanding the number of inpatient beds available as well as expanding ICU capacity and contact tracing.
To assist members in navigating the potential changes in their workplaces, SUN Provincial held a series of Member Information Sessions on December 7 reaching close to 1,000 members, to discuss the SHA’s Redeployment and Health Services Slowdown plans and what this means SUN members and how the temporary Letter of Understanding signed in April applies.
Recognizing not everyone could attend the scheduled sessions, a section of SUN’s website has been devoted to providing members with resources to better understand the impact of these potential changes, including a summary of the frequently asked questions regarding redeployment.
Members are encouraged to call Duty Roster if they have any questions or concerns to seek guidance from an Employment Relations Officer or Nurse Practice Officer.
New Website Section Includes:
- SHA Redeployment Plan and Health Services Slow Down (Dec 3 Presentation)

- SHA Frequently Asked Question document (Dec 7)
