SUN would like to thank all our members who attended the February 10th special member sessions regarding the changes that the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is making to the Public Health Care Network. As members are aware, the SHA has recently provided notice of its plan to create new Agencies and departments, and transfer positions to the new Primary Health Care Network structure.

These future changes will have a direct impact on members and SUN has been working to gain as much information as possible about these changes and the full range of consequences.

WHAT WE KNOW TO DATE:

  • SHA has the right to make changes to their structure and operations.
  • SHA is creating brand new Agencies/departments/programs.
  • Members have been served notice and it is the SHA’s position that the change is covered by the transfer/merger language in our Collective Agreement.
  • They state that “position location, position status and job duties will remain the same”.
  • SUN’s position is that this change does not constitute a simple transfer, and should be covered under our Closure/Conversion language in the Collective Agreement.
  • SUN also believes that since the SHA is choosing to create brand new Agencies/departments/programs with a new, larger geographical reach, our members' geographical responsibilities and work will change.

In addition, because a brand new entity is being created, members' rights under the CBA must be upheld which requires the SHA to provide members with a range of options.

WHAT SUN IS DOING:

SUN has articulated our position to the SHA, requested data, and has committed to further discussions with the SHA in order to find common ground, and ensure that members’ rights are protected.

WHAT MEMBERS CAN DO:

  • We encourage our members to obtain your letters of appointment to your current positions if you do not have a copy. This can be done through your SUN Local, manager, or by requesting to see your personnel file in SHA HR.

As always, we encourage you to connect with your Local President or your ERO if you hear anything related to this structure change, feel there has been a change to your current responsibilities/job duties, or have any other questions.
