Representatives from Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN), Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Affiliates, and Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) met to continue negotiations on May 27, 28, and 29, 2025.
Discussions concentrated on topics such as multi facility/agency positions, mergers and transfers, scheduling, how vacancies are filled, tech change, and organizational change. Additional topics continued to include community positions, structure and geography, the location of where and how work exists, and ensuring that SUN members have options.
This led to some good conversation on postings and related articles. The Committee is happy to report that both parties have come to agreement on permanent postings as provincial, now that the SHA is a provincial entity, and work continues on the parameters of how temporary postings will function.
A key focus of these discussions continued to be trying to get a clear understanding of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA)’s future vision of the new organizational structure, geography, and upcoming plans for further reorganization. The Employer is looking for operational flexibility, including the mobility of staff as a central feature of this new vision and structure. SUN’s Negotiations Committee continues to be concerned that this could have a significant impact on how and where registered nurses do their work, which is why the Committee is dedicating significant effort to reviewing and attempting to clearly understand Saskatchewan Authority of Health Organization’s (SAHO) proposals regarding structure and reorganization.
The Committee continues to take a problem-solving approach and make progress through detailed, positive conversations, which resulted in additional sign offs over the past three days. Further, the Committee remains dedicated to ensuring that the language is clear, well defined, and both protects and supports SUN members so they can do the important work of providing safe, timely care for patients in every corner of the province.
Conversations will resume during the next set of bargaining dates, which are scheduled to begin on June 17, 2025.
