Representatives from the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN), Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), and the Saskatchewan Authority of Health Organizations (SAHO) met on November 25, 26, 27 and 28 to continue discussions.

The conversations included a focus on language related to union representation, space for Locals, leave related to grievances, dues list information, as well as a specific focus and extended discussion on the working conditions of multi-site and community positions. The Committee is making a significant effort to ask questions, request information, and problem-solve in order to develop clear, improved, simple language that will work for all multi-site situations for members.

In the course of these discussions, there have been some difficult and heated exchanges between the parties pertaining to geography, and the Employers’ push to have unlimited freedom to move our members as needed without interference from the Union in multi-site or community settings. Both parties have exchanged proposals on the language outlined in Articles 26 and 45 and will continue discussions in our next session to attempt to bridge the gap in our differing philosophies to date on these subjects.

As always, in all discussions taking place at the bargaining table, our Committee remains dedicated to making sure members’ rights and their ability to provide safe, timely care to patients are protected.

Even though discussions may get intense at times, both parties have demonstrated the willingness and ability to come together, understand each other’s priorities and concerns, and develop language that works for everyone. While conversations were challenging at times in our last four-day session, the parties are continuing to make progress, and SUN’s Committee is pleased to have achieved further sign-off on articles 6.02, 6.04 c), 6.11, 6.12, 6.14, 18.08, 20.02, 20.03, 20.04, and 20.07.

SUN’s Negotiations Committee looks forward to more good conversation and progress on December 16, 17, and 18.
