The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) communicated with staff through the Daily Rounds on February 22, 2022, an update regarding WCB claims for employees who contract COVID-19 at work. Click here to read the Feb. 22 Daily Rounds.
To summarize, the WCB will cover work-related COVID-19 claims if a link is confirmed between an individual’s positive COVID-19 case and their workplace. Three conditions must be met:

													- Individual has a confirmed exposure to COVID-19 in the workplace.

													- Individual is positive for COVID-19 soon after workplace exposure.

													- The individual’s type of work creates a greater risk of COVID-19 exposure than faced by the general public.

Individuals who require medical care or are required to miss work due to contracting COVID-19 from a workplace exposure are directed to submit a claim. WCB claims submitted for work-related COVID-19 exposure require a confirmatory PCR test.
Healthcare workers who receive a positive Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) are encouraged to seek a PCR test through a private provider and then contact WCB to start the claim process (the cost of a third-party provider test MAY be reimbursed by the WCB if the claim is linked to workplace exposure).
Healthcare workers who receive a positive RAT no longer qualify for a public confirmatory PCR test.
