What is Position Evaluation
Position Evaluation (aka Joint Job Evaluation) is a province-wide, healthcare initiative that involves a joint effort between health-sector unions and the employers represented by SAHO.

Position Evaluation objectively and fairly determines the relative (internal equity) value of jobs within an organization by a consistent and systematic study and analysis of the jobs using the four gender-neutral criteria of skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions. The principle of equal pay for work of equal value (pay equity) is achieved by ending gender-based wage discrimination resulting in the undervaluation of female-dominated jobs. The joint job evaluation process adheres to the goals of the province’s Framework for Pay Equity and Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value.

Position Evaluation is not wage parity; it does not compare jobs with professions outside healthcare or with jobs outside the province. Position Evaluation is not a performance appraisal; it measures the tasks assigned to the position, not the performance of the individual doing the job.

How is the Committee constructed?
The Position Evaluation Committee is comprised of two SUN members, two SAHO members, and a staff advisor from SUN and one from SAHO.  The purpose of the Committee is to utilize the agreed upon Position Evaluation Tool to evaluate and classify new and changed positions.

As a SUN member representative, your position on this Committee is a funded position, including travel, income continuance, and other costs incurred during the meeting and or travel time required, as well as receiving funding to attend the Annual Meeting and Bargaining Conference as per Membership Policy 038-M-2007.  The Position Evaluation Committee does not have a pre-determined number of meetings, the Committee meets on an as-needed-basis (approx. 1-3 times/year).

Please note that this is a Committee position and not a full-time paid position.
