SUPPORTING MASK USE IN YOUR PRACTICE 
We know SUN members recognize that all people – patients, families, and frontline workers alike – have shared accountability for creating safe workplaces throughout the health system. This is especially true during a pandemic.
 
From time to time you may encounter individuals who are unable or unwilling to wear a mask. Such situations can pose a challenge for registered nurses, but also an opportunity for education and knowledge-sharing with your patients.
 
The following two SHA documents will assist you in navigating scenarios where individuals refuse to wear a mask, helping you to start a conversation, share knowledge, and work with the person to find a solution while keeping everyone in your facility safe.

Although the COVID-19 vaccinations are highly effective, immunized staff and physicians MUST continue to be vigilant in their PPE practices and continue to practice physical distancing. The best way to stay protected from the COVID-19 virus isn’t to choose between masks, physical distancing, and vaccines, but to combine them as they work best as a team.

We often equate medical advances with years of research and regulatory approvals, so naturally, some are wondering how a COVID-19 vaccine that has been developed in the space of less than a year can possibly be safe?
