The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) says it has added another step to its referral process for COVID-19 testing after two Saskatoon residents raised concerns about delays.
Tobi-Dawne Smith told CBC last week that it took five days to get tested after she was told she would get a call to arrange an appointment.
Smith, who said she had symptoms similar to those of the virus, was tested on Friday and received a negative result early Monday.
Saskatoon man Kody Merasty said he was referred for testing but never received a call back from the health authority to arrange a time.
The health authority said Tuesday it works hard to be responsive, caring and timely throughout the referral and testing process.
"In very rare cases, we know that human error can occur and those incidents are reviewed to remove any flaws in the process," said the SHA in a written response to questions.
"While we had processes and work standards in place to receive referral information and to make the appointments, given this situation we have now added another step in the process as a triple check that we don't miss anyone."
Smith said Monday she was pleased with the way the SHA handled her concerns when a representative called to follow-up on Monday.
