The homeless shelter program in Estevan is getting a significant contribution from the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN), which will help address the shelter's needs as an increasing number of locals continue to turn to the program.

St. Paul’s United Church and their minister Brenna Nickel, who share the shelter's duties with the local Salvation Army, were thrilled to hear that the Warm Welcome homeless shelter program was on the receiving end of a $25,000 grant from SUN.

"This is a huge contribution to Warm Welcome, and we're so grateful," said Nickel, prior to the official cheque presentation on July 7.

The Estevan Family Resource Centre has received a $25,000 donation from the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN).

The money will be used for a renovation in the family centre’s back programming room.

SUN board member Leslie Saunders presented a cheque for $25,000 to the centre on Tuesday morning. It was a busy morning for SUN representatives, as they also donated $25,000 to the Warm Welcome shelter in Estevan.

Both donations were from SUN's program committee.

Leslie Saunders, who represents the southeast region on SUN’s board, said they decided to support the family centre because it fits in with the union’s mission of healthy members, a healthy union and healthy communities.

“Communities play a huge role in the social determination of health, and so by supporting by community centres like the Estevan Family Resource Centre, it helps contribute to the health and well-being of the children and the parents within the community,” Saunders told Lifestyles.
