Regina, November 6, 2012: Members of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) working at the All Nations Healing Hospital in Fort Qu’Appelle have voted 100% in favour of ratifying a new two-year collective agreement. This comes after a tentative agreement was reached in late October after less than one day of bargaining.
“This is great news and shows just how well collective bargaining can and does work under existing legislation,” says SUN President, Rosalee Longmoore. “Too often these success stories - of which there are many - are overshadowed by labour disputes that are by no means the norm.”
Twenty-six SUN members work under the SUN/All Nations Healing Hospital Collective Agreement.
The new agreement provides for a 2% lump sum payment in lieu of a wage increase in the first year, followed by a 2% economic wage increase in year two. The parties also agree to jointly pursue discussions with 3sHealth and SHEPP to identify options for portability of benefits for new employees who are currently or formerly from a bargaining unit represented by SUN.
Negotiations began in Fort Qu’Appelle on Monday October 22, 2012 at 10 am with a tentative agreement being reached by 7pm that same day. The All Nations Healing Hospital is an integrated health care facility servicing Fort Qu’Appelle and its surrounding communities. It is owned and operated by the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council and Touchwood Agency Tribal Council.
SUN represents almost 9,000 Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), Registered Nurse(Nurse Practitioner)s (RN(NP)s) and graduates in the province.
