On July 11, 2021, all provincial health measures were lifted in Saskatchewan and the State of Emergency ended. Since that time, cases of COVID-19 have increased exponentially and are steadily trending upwards, driven by the highly contagious Delta variant, unvaccinated individuals, and the province's lack of medical guidance.

We know that the healthcare system is quickly becoming overwhelmed, with Emergency Rooms and ICUs running at overcapacity. We know members are exhausted, burnt out, and concerned about ensuring vulnerable patients get the care they so desperately need.

We are calling upon the government to implement the recommendations of Saskatchewan's Medical Health Officers, including public indoor masking, reduction of services by 20% to ensure adequate resources are available, and vaccine requirements to protect the unvaccinated and vulnerable.

We need you, SUN members, to raise your voices and contact your government representatives, the Minister and Health, and the Premier. Tell these elected officials about the stress you're seeing in the workplace. Tell them about the stacks of vacation requests you've seen denied. Tell them about the patients whose care is suffering because the healthcare system is overburdened.

Remind them who elected them, who they work for, and who they should be protecting: the Saskatchewan public.
