In April 2020, all health care unions, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and all affiliate employers entered into a Letter of Understanding to address staffing issues and health care needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was agreed the Letter of Understanding would remain in force for a period of 28 days after the Emergency Declaration was rescinded. 
 
As of July 11, 2021, the Government of Saskatchewan revoked the State of Emergency and removed all Public Health Orders, therefore the Letter of Understanding has expired effective August 8, 2021. 
 
Effective August 8, 2021, SUN members should be aware the following provisions no longer apply:
 

  • Labour Pools no longer exist. No SUN members should be assigned to any Labour Pool.
  • Redeployment of an employee through the Labour Pool no longer exists. All redeployed SUN members should be back in their home units as of August 8, 2021.
  • Cohorting of employees no longer exists. No SUN member should be prevented from working in different facilitates.
  • Successful applicants to vacant positions can no longer have delayed start dates. No SUN member should have a delayed start date beyond the period identified in the collective agreement.
  • Supplemental workforce contractors including Out of Scope workers, health system partners, students, volunteers or other personnel providing assistance may no longer be utilized.
