[April 8, 2020] The release of today’s COVID-19 modelling should give us hope that the worst-case scenario doesn’t have to come to pass. In fact, I choose to read today’s modelling as a roadmap of hope that if we stay focussed on our current efforts, we can do better than even the best-case scenario.
If we keep doing what we are doing: keep staying home, keep social distancing by remaining at least 2 metres apart and wearing masks if we must go out, we can stop COVID-19 from sinking its teeth into our province.
As a province, we have a history of coming together in tough times and today, this collective resilience shows glimmers of hope.
Saskatchewan is not seeing massive daily jumps in case numbers yet, our system is not overwhelmed at this point, and people are starting to slowly recover. What we are doing is working and we cannot let up.
I am so proud of the efforts Saskatchewan people have made and I am so thankful for all of you, our province’s nurses, health workers and all of the essential service workers out there keeping us moving forward during these difficult times. Thank you for your fearless and selfless efforts.
You are doing an incredible job and yes, questions around PPE weigh us down, but our amazing communities here at home in Saskatchewan are uniting to donate supplies, Canadian businesses are repurposing to produce PPE supplies, and every day your nursing unions are pushing for better access. We have your back no matter what.
So, let’s keep going. There will be an end and we, the citizens, essential workers and organizations, such as SUN, have the power to write our own story and chart our own course for this COVID-19 epidemic.
I have faith in all of us working together. We’ve faced and overcome adversity as a community before and we will do it again. Let’s keep pushing forward. We’ve got this, Saskatchewan.
In solidarity
