Today is World AIDS Day and sadly Saskatchewan has the highest rate of HIV infection in Canada, with 2,091 cases reported between 1985 and 2016. The number of new cases in Saskatchewan is almost triple the national average.
"We need a solid strategy to turn the tides on this public health emergency, that includes improved funding and resources that can be dedicated to population education, fighting discrimination, enhanced testing and most importantly better access to antiretroviral therapy," SUN President Tracy Zambory, RN
Saskatchewan must aim for the United Nations’ ambitious 90-90-90 target to help end the AIDS epidemic: By 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status. By 2020, 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy. By 2020, 90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression. We can achieve this in our province. Get tested, know your status and let’s fight and end HIV/AIDS together.
