The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses says it is facing numerous challenges after a tough provincial budget on March 22nd.
As their annual meeting takes place in Regina Thursday, the union says it is still looking for answers when it comes to the province’s new single health authority.
Tracy Zambory, the President of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses says there have been situations where emergency rooms have been past full-capacity this year.
“The system is at over-capacity,” said Zambory. “Continually at over-capacity. Particularly our emergency rooms. They’re running at least at 100-percent, or more.”
Zambory says having registered nurses on the transition board is vital.
“We want to be able to be part of that team,” said Zambory. “We have requested and believe the expertise of a registered nurse is required for the transition team. So we have request a registered nurse have a seat.”
Zambory says they have met with the transition team to request a seat verbally, and in writing.
They have also reached out to provincial Health Minister Jim Reiter.
Zambory says they are still waiting to hear back whether or not that’s a possibility.
